Lucy Bagels loves bagels so much, that when she’s not at the shop, she feels sad.

So, she decided to do something about it.  Do you know that you can come to The Whole Bagel, and buy bagels straight from the oven, filling free?!  It’s really true, and it’s wonderful news if you like baking … so here’s what Lucy Bagels got up to last weekend …

Let us introduce you to Bagel & Butter Pudding (happiness guaranteed!)

Lucy Bagel’s Bagel & Butter Pudding

This recipe serves 4.

Ingredients:

• 3 x plain bagels (you can get these straight from The Whole Bagel at 75p each or 6 for £3 or a baker’s dozen for £6)
• 50g butter
• 60g of dried fruit (this can be whatever you like, Lucy just used currants but you could use some candied peel too).
• 275ml milk
• 60ml double cream
• 50g caster sugar
• 3 eggs
• Freshly grated nutmeg

1. Set your oven to 180 degrees.
2. Firstly, take your wonderful bagels and cut each horizontally twice (so for each bagel you will have a top, middle and bottom!)  You then need to butter all 9 pieces on both sides.
3. Put one layer of bagels into your baking tin and sprinkle with the dried fruit.  Continue until you run out of bagels and fruit.
4. Then mix the milk, cream, sugar and eggs in a jug.
5. Pour this mixture over the bagels, then sprinkle with the grated nutmeg.
6. Place in the oven for about 30-40 minutes or until golden (and very delicious!)

After a busy day at The Whole Bagel I was treated to a copy of ‘Bath Life’ which had been posted through my door … and what a wonderful surprise I got … a picture of the Big Bagel Boss, King of the Bagels, Top Bageler, Mikey Bagels!!!

Mikey Bagels spent a rather glamorous evening with the the best of Bath at ‘The Bath Life Awards’.

We are very proud to say that we were nominated in the ‘Best Cafe/Coffee Shop’ Category. Hip hip hooray!!!  We didn’t win, but are delighted that the wonderful Colonna & Smalls won … boy, they really can make coffee!  Maxwell Colonna-Dashwood of Colonna & Smalls won the UK Barista Championship in 2012, what a privilege to have the UK’s best barista in Bath and to be nominated in the same category for the Bath Life Awards … hip hip hoorays all round!

With space for bagel eaters to sit, and lots more bagel lovers developing in Bath … we’ve had to get used to lots more staff! We are now a team of 11 bagel loving bagelers (a term for a member of staff at The Whole Bagel).  And believe it or not, they all  really do love bagels … and to prove that this is true, let me tell you about a few of the bagelers …

Sophie Bagels loves bagels so much that she is always on the hunt for super delicious combinations of ingredients to put in her bagel.  Last week she made a bagel with cream cheese, tomato chutney, hummus, guacomole, balsamic dressing, dill pickles and bacon.  We’re not convinced that Sophie enjoyed her bagel but we are really pleased to see her so keen to find new bagel filling ideas.

Jasmine Bagels loves bagels so much that she is designing a range of cards with a theme of … bagels.  And we will support her all the way, who wouldn’t want to have a bagel on a card sent to them?! Birthdays, Weddings, New Homes, New Babies and Anniversaries should certainly be celebrated with a reminder to eat bagels.  We’re looking forward to seeing the prototypes!

Lucy Bagels love bagels so much that she has written a song about them.  She is now in the middle of writing an album … ‘The Songs of The Whole Bagel’.  When we say in the middle … it’s taken her 3 months to write one song, so an album looks a long way off, but the first song has gone down a treat.  We’re really excited to see what she comes up with next!

It’s time to give you some news about the wonderful world of The Whole Bagel in our BIG NEW SHOP!

Actually, our shop’s not actually that new anymore, we’ve been living at 8 Upper Borough Walls for nearly 8 months now and we very happy in our new home.

There have been some big changes that we’ve had to get used to in our new home, including … getting used to spending more time with our customers!  This is because we’re not just a takeaway anymore, we have a cafe upstairs (hooray!)  People can sit in our bagel haven and have wonderful food and drinks brought to them … it really is a big change!!! (but a big change that we LOVE).  Extra exciting news for those who want to eat in with us is that your bagel will be accompanied  by a side garnish (another hooray!)  This pot of deliciousness changes weekly so you can have a lovely surprise every time you visit.
